Bangs and Mother's Day

From Elle.com :“Hairstyle and hair color may not be accurate indicators of personality, but society’s stereotypes can sometimes influence how various styles and colors are perceived,” says Erin Bogart.

I think your hair really can tell a lot of your personality. It also can affect your life in odd ways, even though it shouldn't. If you have terrible hair, or dirty hair, it is less likely you will get that amazing editing job in downtown with that bitchy woman as your boss. ( Ignore the Devil Wears Prada reference)

Bangs can make or break your hair cut and your entire attire. You could have amazing curly aubern locks, but if you have sided swept bangs that are uneven or aren't right for your face, you will look like a Miss Potatohead. However, picking the best bangs for your face shape, color and cut is hard to do and should not be a decision made by your stylist at the last min.
SO I have made a wonderful little rubric, very Tech of me. Love it.

Hair Color!
Well it's really simple, if you want to be taken seriously in a very high end business you need to have a more natural color. If you just want to rock it then it is more up to your skin tone and how you want your personality to show. Honestly your natural hair color is usually the most beautiful, But everyone seems to disagree with what they have and want something different.
Blond is still considered more fun, but lately it has been pushed into a more serious role. However, going to a blond extreme is more playful and less professional. ( just remember it is always situational )
Makeup tips for blondes:
Peach tones are universally flattering to blondes

If you opt for red lips, keep them sheer and limit the hue to evenings, says Dorf.

Opt for brown mascara rather than black; it contrasts less with your hair color.

Red can be liberating and is a wonderful color when you really need a boost, however not all skin colors look grand with red. Red used to be considered a bad color for relationships but lately the crazy redheads have been discredited since this last fall season and fashion weeks array of redhead beauties. Just remember to keep it up, red can be the most work to maintain.
Makeup tips for redheads:
Avoid dark, smoky eyes. They compete with your attention-grabbing tresses, says Paula Dorf, a celebrity makeup artist.

Do think pink. Pink lip color and blush look gorgeous on redheads, despite outdated advice to the contrary, says Dorf.

Don't match your brows and hair; it looks bizarre, says Danilo, a celeb colorist.

Brunette is the usual, if you want to go brunette or you want to play up your own earthy tone, give it a shine, make it a mahogany or a cherry wood. Make sure to keep the shine and ask for depth. Keep a shine conditioner on hand.
(personally I have always been envious of beautiful brunettes, it's edgy, but not forced like red)
Makeup tips for brunettes:
Pile on the mascara and make it black. You need dark fringe to balance your dark strands, says Paula Dorf, a celebrity makeup artist.

Play with jewel tones on your eyes. Brunettes can get away with dramatic eyes.

If your dark hair makes your complexion appear too pasty, shimmery bronzer is your ticket, says Ross Burton, Lancôme's national artistic director.

CUT OR NOT THAT IS THE QUESTION!
Short is in, long is in, both are always beautiful. That probably isn't helpful. Elle has it right, low maintenance is important. Your face shape is important and your height and weight can look different by your hair style. It is a personal opinion. If you are going to go short, think long and hard before you do. Take a lot of time looking for the exact style. Make sure you know your stylist well and if their opinion matters listen to them!!! If they tell you the style you picked is not right for you say YES MA'AM!
Now for my real opinion...
Short hairstyles are awesome. Pixi is beautiful and my favorite of this year. The blunt bob as well.
Long hair, wavy loose and wavy or something natural, but as long as it can get. The shoulder length is not what it do.

Last but not least,

FACE SHAPE!
To find out the shape of your face, measure it with a tape measure or ruler. You will take the following measurements.
1. Measure your face across the top of your cheekbones. Write down the measurement on a piece of paper.
2. Measure across your jaw line from the widest point to the widest point. Write down the measurement.
3. Measure across your forehead at the widest point. Generally the widest point will be somewhere about halfway between your eyebrows and your hairline. Write down the measurement.
4. Measure from the tip of your hairline to the bottom of your chin.
Oval Face - Length equal to one and a half times width.
Oval faces are the luckiest. They can pretty much wear every kind of hairstyle. However, try not to cover your face with bangs or to much texture, it may add weight to your face.
Round Face - Your face is as wide as it is long. This may vary a little but generally the measurement is close.
With round faces, you want to make your volume at the crown and an off center part. A short style would be great as long as it was a swept back style. Do not get a chin length cut unless you want to have a perfectly rounded face. Stay away from rounded cuts. Asymetrical and off center parts are good. Also having the hair swept off the face is good.
Oblong - Longer than it is wide.
A Short cut with wispy bangs and volume at the sides. If you are not brave enough for a short style get a medium cut with lots of layers.
Heart - Narrow at jaw line, wide at cheekbones/and or forehead.
Though longer hair styles will be great, a chin length bob is one of the most dramatic styles for this shape. One blogger wrote to have volume at the nape to balance the shape. Stay away from volume at the crown and always try to accentuate your cheek bones.
Triangular- Reverse of the heart-shape, a dominant jaw line with narrowing at the cheek bone and temples.
Wedges, shags and layers are perfect. Just make it very voluminous to balance off the jaw line.
Square - your face is about as wide as it is long.
With square shapes wave is perfect. If your hair is straight, get more volume in your hair. Waves and layers that are wispy and at the mid line are perfect. Off center parts are good for your shape as well.
Diamond - Widest at cheekbones, narrow forehead and jaw line of approximately equal widths.
Once again, you have face that can use any style. Experiment!! However, try not to hide any one point on your face. Your features are perfect.
PS. If you want short hair but don't want to wait till your tresses grow back, fake a short style.
    BANGS of the season~
Extreme sideswept bangs are very popular. It looks great with really straight pixi cut or with a very romantic curls.
Blunt bangs are very HOTT this season. This style is not for every face shape or hair type. BEVERYCAREFUL!

Long bangs or what some people call, No bangs No Bucks. This has been seen most with wavy loose curls and with a textured, tight and straightened ponytail.

    Braids...Secrets.
The braid over the crown and the loose messy braid is incredibly popular and might I say beautifully. It also is a great way to make your straight hair wavy. Braid up your hair the night before with some leave in conditioner, wake up and wear it to work, that evening take out the braid and finger comb it to go out!

A big shout out to Nylon, one of my top fav mags for the fashion seeing. Last issue was late getting to my box, but that doesn't mean there was anything but extraordinary from the greatness at Nylon. Take a look yourself. I consider it a wonderful investment.
However, you can very easily tune in to their web site and contract the Nylon disease on your own. For now you can tune in to me for a few insights...
    From Nylon Mag online:
    LOOKBOOK: FOLEY + CORINNA
Party dresses for party girls are reason enough to celebrate.

Many brands try to sell you the downtown party girl lifestyle, but Foley + Corinna have actually lived it.

The label opened its eponymous boutique in New York’s Lower East Side back in 1999, before the Strokes even had a record deal.

Since then, their flirty dresses and slouchy bags have been spotted on the cool and the famous alike. But the one common denominator has always been girls who know how to have a good time.

That much is clear with their fall collection, which includes vintage-inspired angora sweaters and embossed leather mini-skirts perfect for a night at the Bowery Ballroom (or breakfast at BabyCakes). Though not everyone gets fashion photographer Tom Hines documenting their evening out, as the models in the lookbook do, but we can all play dress-up in Foley + Corinna’s Lower East Side store.

Another story proved it's worth. You must, absolutely MUST respectively check out this boutique, even if you live as far away as Texas. This shop in Brooklyn is magnifique!!
    THE WRIGHT STUFF
A Brooklyn boutique hits the world wide web.

The Brooklynite fashion sense is oft praised for its originality and coveted for its casual cool vibe.

And until recently, recreating that effortlessly hip look rocked by the borough’s inhabitants was nearly impossible for those of us residing elsewhere. But now, whether you’re stuck on the West Coast or just too lazy to get on the G train, you can virtually visit one of Brooklyn’s most stylish purveyors.

Stuart and Wright—frequented by locals like Maggie Gyllenhaal and Michelle Williams—just launched an online store, providing the same great clothes stocked at its Fort Greene location, without the commute.

Featuring brands like Acne, No. 6, and A.P.C., as well as the store’s just-launched eponymous line, the online store is as well curated as the brick-and-mortar. We love Rachel Comey’s sea-inspired summer collection and Mina Stone’s tie-dye and floral adorned ensembles. Throw in Ariana Bohlig’s python shoes and the cross-body bags by Wendy Nichol, and you have a look that’s so easy-chic, getting dressed will be easy even the morning after a Brooklyn rager.
